Katarina Witt began ice skating at the age of five. Her talents soon became evident as she enrolled into a school specifically designed that caters to children who have a passion for sport in Karl-Marx-Stadt. Her coach Jutta was also at the school. Witt finished second at the World Championships of Copenhagen in 1982. This marked her debut. Her elegance and grace caught the attention of everyone immediately, and from that point forward she began to dominate the game. Olympic Erfolg In Sarajevo, at the Sarajevo Winter Games in 1984, Katarina won the gold medal in figure skating for women after a fiercely contested contest. A more competitive contest the following year, Witt was awarded the gold medal. The free skater lost however she was awarded the gold medal for her figures that were compulsory and her program was short. Witt is the first female figure skater to have won the same event twice since Sonja Heine. Hall of Fame Witt competed in the Lillehammer Winter Games in 1994 following her successful run acting. Despite not winning an award for gold, the young skater impressed the crowd. Witt's entry into the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame occurred in the year 1995.
